AST™ Technology allows perfplug to transform itself from a ball into a "plug" which is exclusive for the hole to be isolated, this exclusive "plug" will not only cover the hole's opening with its top half outside the hole, but also plug the hole and meanwhile fix itself at entrance hole with its bottom half inside the hole.
A large number of soft cords are added to the outer surface of the PERFPLUG®, with one end fixed to the surface of the device and the other end free to move. Those cords are designed to fill gaps between the "plug" and hole. meanwhile give perfplug a rough surface.
With EVANESCO® Variable Degradation Rate technology, the dissolution rate of PERFPLUG® is no longer fixed, but will switch to a faster degradation rate at a certain time
after it contacts fluid downhole. it will hardly affect the isolation performance of the PERFPLUG®, but can greatly shorten the time for PERFPLUG to dissolve completely.
PERFPLUG® Unique Isolation Skillset
Density of PERFPLUG® is adjustable from 1.3~1.8g/cm³, Combined with large surface area and cross-section, PERFPLUG® can be more easily carried by the fluid to entry holes, and quickly build up a pressure difference on both sides of the hole, initiating shape transformation.
Differ from regular frac diverter, PERFPLUG will not only cover the hole's opening with its top half outside the hole, but also plug the hole with its bottom half inside the hole after transformation.
The perfplug is designed to change its shape with internal mechanical movement instead of elastic or plastic deformation and only start transforming when preset the differential pressure is reached or exceeded. that is to keep the "plug" from transforming back to original shape and then escape the hole when differential pressure decreases.
It is a failed hole isolation, If part of the hole still exposed to high-pressure fluid without any limitation due to entire "plug" being pushed into the hole deeply. A special rigid core inside the perfplug is designed to prevent this from happening, which has a larger size than the diameter of the hole to be isolated.
1. The rough surface of the "plug" will be attached firmly to inner surface of the hole as a result of shape transformation.
2. In some cases, the hole and the "plug" may have a shape that more difficult for the "plug" to pull out, e.g. a dumbbell shape.
Dissolution rate depends on the downhole environment and type of perfplug®. In most cases, perfplug® can completely dissolve within 14 days. Or else optional with EVANESCO® variable degradation rate(VDR) technology to shorten degradation time without losing isolation time and performance.
